Surman is more than a shelter. It is a safe and caring home for children who have been abandoned, separated from their families, or have grown up in difficult circumstances. Here, children are given the care, education, food, healthcare and support they need to grow with confidence and look towards a better future.
At the heart of Surman is a simple belief — “Humanity is the human religion.” We believe that every child deserves to be treated with kindness, dignity and respect. Our aim is to create an environment where children feel safe, valued and supported, while also helping them discover their interests, develop their skills and become more independent.

Surman does not receive regular financial support from the Central or State Government.

Children living at Surman are not available for adoption.

At Surman, we believe no child should have to grow up without care, protection or a place to call home. Every child deserves to feel that they belong somewhere, that someone cares about them, and that they have a future worth working towards.
What began as a small act of kindness has grown into a much larger family. But Surman's journey started with one woman — Manan Chaturvedi — who decided to step forward and help a child in need.
And that one decision became the beginning of Surman.
Where Surman’s Story Began
The Beginning of Surman
While taking care of her own three children and family, Manan Chaturvedi regularly visited nearby slum areas to help children by providing clothes, toys and sweets. She also spent time with them and sometimes painted with them.
During one of these visits, she met a young girl named Gauri, who had suffered a serious head injury and was badly hurt. Manan immediately took her to the hospital and stayed with her for three days during her treatment.
After that, Manan decided to bring Gauri home and take care of her. This became the beginning of Surman.
Within the same month, eight more children joined her. Over time, more children came to Surman and the small effort gradually grew into a larger family.
The journey was not always easy. In the early days, getting the necessary support was difficult, but Manan continued her work with patience and determination.
Manan’s Vision for Surman
Surman Palna — A Safe Place for Children
Surman Palna was created with the belief that no child should be left without proper care, food, shelter, education or medical support.
Manan was deeply affected by seeing children living without these basic needs. She often noticed that while many people felt sympathy for abandoned and vulnerable children, only a few were willing to step forward and provide practical help.
This became one of the reasons behind Surman Palna. The aim was to create a safe and caring place where children could receive the support they need and have the opportunity to grow in a healthy and secure environment.
Today, Surman Palna is home to children of different ages, from infants and toddlers to school-going children. They are cared for as part of the Surman family, with Manan lovingly known to them as “Mumma.”
Our focus is to provide children with a safe home, nutritious food, education, healthcare, care and emotional support, while helping them grow with confidence and dignity.
What began with a small number of children has gradually grown into a larger family. The journey continues with the same purpose — to make sure that children who need care are not left behind.
